Our purpose

We want to create a supportive, resilient prison culture that recognizes the importance of mental health and empowers people to live fulfilling lives.

Our Vision

A prison environment where no person feels alone with their mental health.

A statement about our vision

Our vision is to create an environment in which Mental Well Being is the norm in all prisons in the UK. As a society, we recognise that mental health is an integral part of overall well-being. We understand that mental illness, like physical illness, is a medically treatable condition, it can develop in anyone, it is preventable, and those who experience mental illness can return to good health.

As a result, there should be no room for stigma.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help people achieve good physical and mental wellbeing and live life to the full.

A statement about our mission:

Every person who experiences the criminal justice system and whose mental health ends up in crisis is a person who has been failed. We know that the earlier people can be educated on mental ill health, the more likely it is that they can avoid these crises. If they need a reassuring conversation, mental health education, or simply information to understand that they are not alone in how they feel, we will ensure they get support as soon as possible that addresses their need.

Our Values

We know what needs to change because were engaged and people tell us. Our voices rise in response to theirs.

We live our values - they influence the way we treat our clients, engage with all our stakeholders, and the way we work and interact with our colleagues, both within and outside of Safer landings

  • We advocate and increase awareness of the interests that matter most to all involved in prisons and communities

  • We actively raise awareness of mental wellbeing and the benefits of lived experience leadership, supporting people to participate in local society.

  • We don’t let people’s future be defined by their past.

  • We provide safe, supportive environments for everyone to be themselves.

  • We utilise the knowledge, skills, and experience of everyone to achieve the best results.

  • We work for social inclusion.

  • We build meaningful internal and external connections so that everyone can get the help they need.

  • We strive to reduce stigma and promote positive attitudes towards mental health.

  • We don't hold back when it comes to standing up for what we believe in.

  • We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

  • We depend on the dedication of our staff, our ambassadors, our partners, our volunteers and our contributors. People feel good about being associated with Safer Landings.

The following principles guide our approach:

  • We are Person Centred

  • We are Trauma Informed

  • We are Strengths Based
